Made it through another one! Big fish were really hard to come by this year. Got a couple day's of prefishing in and we both had a couple areas we liked and some backup spots. We started on my hard to get to spot Friday morning and it was a bust! So was my second area. Fished some backup stuff and found em but a little too late! Ended day one in 11th place with 119 teams missing the top 10 by .01. We felt confident going into day 2 because we didn't fish that area long at all because lines had to be in at 3! Day 2 greeted us to misting rain and 32 degree temps at lines in and why that area had a lot of fish it didn't have the size it had the day before! We tried a few different areas and finally found where they moved day 2. D'arbonne and Grenada are probably the spookiest fish anywhere I've chased crappie. We casted to the mostly and when we could get on them we had to hold a jig tipped with a minnow on them forever it seemed and when they did bite they usually just got the minnow! Day 2 we had a fish die, lost 3 fish, one cost us at least 5 places (pulled off at the net), maybe culled the wrong fish (scale acted up all day), and had to quit early for fear of losing another fish we couldn't replace. That said after a tough day 2 we ended up in 13th place and got some $$$ for our troubles! In the office playing catch up this week and going to make a trip to see David at Shut Up and Fish this week to get lithium batteries installed! Looking forward to having all day power! We casted 1/8oz Slab Syndicate hand ties all week on 7' Jenko Trick Sticks. We used the 11' KR Series Jenko's when we got on top of fish in the trees. I wish we had used the X15 but with the rain every day you couldn't get the line to come through all the guides very well and as much casting as we did I could get more distance out of the 7' Trick Stick! They've got some new options in the works and I'm excited to check them out! Came home and hung out with the family and watched us on Crappie Masters TV and American Crappie Trail on the pursuit channel that I recorded while we were gone. Thanks again to all the great folk's that help us out along the way, we couldn't do it without them. Off to Grenada next week! Hopefully all the rains doesn't flood her out too much! I'd love condition's like last year! I've got some availability left for guide trips this spring if your looking to get on some slabs!
