Headed to Texoma on Friday with big expectations and dreams of hundred pounders practically lined up waiting to jump in the boat. Not so much. Texoma is a unique fishery. I think you would have to fish it 20 times to even begin figuring it out. And, a 10 mph wind there is exactly like a 20 mph wind anywhere else. Overall, the fishing was cold, windy and tough. The only exception to the wind was about an hour that the wind laid down and that's when we got two bites! This was one... ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/02/full-111082-130223-texoma_45.jpg) That one went 45 pounds. The other bite was a 52 but no pics do to a technical difficulty lol. The hard part about Texoma is just the overall size of the lake. We started in the Washita arm about as far north as you could go. It was a twenty minute boat ride (at 55 mph) just to get to the main lake! We took a beating and only ended up with two fish but they were both toads. I think my friend Henry has some blue cat genes in his blood. He had an idea where there would be some good fish and so I went straight there and scanned for them. Not one mark and better than that, not one baitfish. I went back to meet up with him (we both took our boats so we could cover more water) and told him what I found. He said he was going to go ahead and try there. I told him I scanned the entire area and didn't see one mark. He went anyway. Within 40 minutes he calls me and says he's got a pig. I haul it back there and set up. I still am not marking anything. My side scan and my sonar look like a lunar landscape. Nothing. I set up a drift within 40 yards of his and 5 minutes later he hits the 52. I'm stumped. Nobody in their right mind would've even stopped in this spot. Henry said you "just can't always rely on electronics". I guess people should start saying you can't teach a new dog old tricks because I'm always gonna rely on them. There's another thing called instinct that old cat guys rely on and I think it's better than electronics! Anyway, we decided to end our weekend trip there and headed to Lavon on Sunday morning. Glad we did because we had a great day there. I didn't get many pics there because I don't have an apparatus to hold my phone so taking pics with big cats is tough. The initial bite was so good also that I didn't have time to take my eyes off the rods for long so I apologize for that. Biggest fish for me was 32 pounds but I put several in the boat between 12 and 28 pounds. Between the two of us we had well over 250 pounds. Unfortunately, I lost what would've been my PB as I was trying to lift him out of the water. I'm guessing it was upper 30's. My net wasn't big enough for him so I know he was bigger than the the 32 I had just netted. Live and learn! ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2022/02/full-111082-130233-lavon_022722.jpg)

I can only imagine how brutally cold that must have been in Texoma. That lake is so huge I always feel like I am on the sea. Henry is a cat whisperer thatโs for sure, and patience? He is a machine! Great job on Lavon!!! I am betting a bigger net is on order, right? PS get a selfie suck tripod thingy for putting your phone on for taking shots with fish. They are cheap as chips and have a remote Bluetooth โckickerโ ![[Linked Image]]( https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Misc/i-4XrSktK/0/f8c8d460/X4/98F37909-AF57-42D5-ACB4-6DC31C1F620F-X4.png) Just stand the tripod on the flat deck and voila.

Way to tough it out. Those big lakes are tough when the wind gets over 10 MPH .

Good job fellas! Love that fishery but itโs always a grind when we go up there. Nothing comes easy on the Beast of the Border!

That's why I stick to stripers on Texoma. I've caught a couple blues, but the striper are far easier to find.
