I've been calling it live/active sonar and a few other names and you see a lot who refer to it as "real-time." Just wanted to make sure I have the acronym correct. The industry is referring to this technology genericly as FFS ... correct? Short for Forward Facing Sonar. I've noticed I'm not the only one, so thought I would make myself the idiot and throw this out.

I’d say “live” or “active” are more accurate descriptors.
If you mount it on something that rotates 360 degrees, you can point the transducer in any direction you want.
Labeling this technology as “forward facing” downplays what separates this advancement from traditional marine sonar.

I’d go with live sonar, it’s just easier to use FFS for the sake of argument here.

Hey JP....just keep in mind EVERY time you see me type "FFS" it means forward facing sonar....and not anything else that youd say to a ludicrous comment....

FFS is the most accurate way to describe it as opposed to other forms of sonar that all shoot down.

I'm offended... I was supposed to be the ONLY one that didn't grasp the FFS as having anything to do with Sonar.

J.P. I believe you saltwater fish quite a bit from what I remember reading. Does anyone use FFS/Live in the oceans/bays or does it not work well at the depths and shallow bays? You mentioned something about a shark the other day and that made me wonder about saltwater usage.

You mentioned something about a shark the other day and that made me wonder about saltwater usage. I'm not running it and haven't seen it run in the salt. If it works, it would be an awesome tool for snapper and grouper fishing.
