As a raging liberal pacifist shouldn’t you be practicing what you preach? Give them all your money, they were dealt a bad hand and it’s no fair you have money. Give them your car, it’s not fair they don’t work and therefore can’t afford a car. Give them your life, then your family can watch them get a PR bond. Don’t be a hypocrite.

A knife is a fine tool to carry for self defense. I'd probably go with some OC spray or a Taser first, though.
That said, go full tang so it doesn't break, have something to keep your wet hand (it will be bloody) from sliding down the blade, and have enough blade to get into the organs. Fat dudes with big clothes are going to need more blade. You aren't putting down dudes by slashing and bleeding them out. Shoving steel into organs is what the purpose is. Have enough blade for that.
FWIW, "knife-fighting" isn't really a thing. At least "knife fighters" aren't, despite the attempts to make that a thing in decades worth of articles in martial arts magazines. But...if you have to get stabby, get stupid stabby and poke that f'r full of as many holes in as few of seconds as humanly possible. If you both have knives...I'd probably just run.

I think everybody should carry a knife on them at all times. But at the same time do not bring a knife to a gunfight.
Thanks, Billy

Unless you can handle yourself really well in a fight, pulling a knife will probably get you in more trouble. You either need a new place to walk, or you need a gun, training and an LTC.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

If you join the NRA you can get a Buck folding lockblade knife like this: Another one I have that is a real nice carry knife. It is assisted open and will last a lifetime. Something you can pass down to your grandchildren too. Can't go wrong with Buck or Case.

I walk regularly in an urban area of Dallas and I need a recommendation for an everyday knife that is LEGAL, easy to operate, small profile and not “gadgety.”
I’m a knife novice, so a specific brand and model I can google for purchase would be helpful.
As a pacifist and an extreme Liberal Democrat, I post this with no satisfaction. Why take a knife to a gunfight? Screw the knife. If you are that concerned, strap one on.

Hire a bodyguard. It’s what scared liberals do that is want to disarm the rest of us.
