All this cold weather made for some mighty fine dead-sticking this week on Cedar Creek. Dan the Man brought his whole crew, which was bad news for the white bass as you can see. Mr Adams followed suit by bringing his two kiddos, and they got a little taste of the action as well. Well done on being a good dad Mr Adams! That means a lot to us when we see kids getting out on the water. The bite was pretty consistent for what we usually see this time of year. Fish are gorging themselves full of shad, as they prepare to make their spawning runs up the creeks. All that heavy feeding makes our “job” a whole lot easier as fishing guides. RD Myers had both groups fishing the same techniques, as they targeted fish over main lake creek channels. Fish were found suspended in 18-24ft, in water that was around 45ft deep overall. They used tandem rigged Thump Buddies and Thump Chubbies on unpainted 1/8 jig heads. The best two colors of the day were a Shaddaboy Thump Chubby and a Fishin Farmer Thump Buddy. Having two completely different bait profiles on the line at the same time always seems to be a favorite presentation of ours during the dead stick season. Sometimes the fish want a 2.25” bait, while others prefer the scales down 1.75” option. If you’ve never tried this style of fishing before, it can really be a lot of fun once you get confident in what you’re doing. We like to find heavy bait concentrations suspended above creek channels, then spotlock the boat over these areas, and begin a rhythmic knocking motion, so as to attract the fish. Once you see the baitfish leave and the big fish start showing up on the graph, you simply lower your bait to match the depth of your target area, and then proceed to hold your rod dead still. When you feel the thump, drop that hammer on ‘em! Care to join us? Just holler at me and we will get you on the water. -Capt. Lane Palmer 817-266-9811 Crappie. Catfish. Sandbass. Striper. Good deal! I've had good luck this winter with the white thump baits too over the larger flukes that have worked for me in the past. Quality baits!
