It seems like we don’t respect this fisherman and his record enough. Ethel and Mark Stevenson must get mentioned 100 to 1 over Barry and his state record catch.

I've fished with Barry a few times. He's a great guy. Super humble and laid-back. Always enjoyed time on the water with him.

An 18 pound State record bass is an 18 pound State record bass, I don’t care who caught it.

Anybody ever hear the story behind that fish?

I think the minnow fishing takes away from it in most guys minds.

thats the only thing ill "hate" on someone for...well wont hate, but its a different degree of respect. Live bait and fooling these fish into thinking a piece of metal/plastic is live bait/edible is a whole different level, for me at least.

where was it caught and when? Never heard of either person

Why don’t we recognize this as the real world record?

Live bait.

I've caught a 10.7 and an 11.4 on a crappie jig and 6 pound test... on a 5 1/2 foot ultra light cherry wood rod and a pfluger present ultra light spinning real.....in timber. Anyone that does not think that takes as much or more skill than sticking one with a M/H bait casting rod and 20 fluoro jump right in and explain...

Once you get them in open water, it's not that tough bringing in big fish on light line - just set your drag right. I've caught sharks (100 pound plus) on 17-pound test with a wire leader. We used to catch a lot of lemon and blackfin sharks while fishing for Cero Mackerel in the Keys.

As I recall he was crappie fishing in 43 feet of water with live bait. Probably why we dont talk about it much, we are bass purists!

I think live scope has more of an advantage then live bait does on catching a world record. Does this mean if the next record bass is caught while using LS it won't be recognized? JM 2cents

Has anyone ever caught a bass over 20 lbs that wasn’t on live bait other than George Perry ( and there’s a lot of doubt about if that one was real)? Most of the really big ones in a California were caught with crawdads.

We do. It's tied with Perry's fish
