Curious too, it could have been not looking good with the warm weather that day and they released it back instead of taking it to athens. They did that with one at Rayburn? one year but still gave the lady a replica mount because she tried to turn it in as a Legacy fish but the SAL guys decided to let her go instead.

Its interesting coming from the most cocky angler in modern history. I know asked about it on FB and he immediately blocked them. Everybody on TFF praised and worshiped him for two sharelunkers in one week yet nobody even caught the fact the fish just disappeared. roflmao

I believe it was a fish he’s caught in the past and was looking for content to plug his sunglass sponsor.

I gotta commend JJ for telling that guy to hold it with 2 hands, put the fish back in the bag and not have him put it in the tank with the wrong water temp, that guy was wanting to showboat that fish around I just knew his kid was gonna drop it scared https://www.facebook.com/JoshJonesFishing/videos/1120106962153221/

Simple answer...money. He was never sponsored by Garmin, but mentioned that he was a tester or had some of the first versions and even mentioned stuff like "friends at garmin" in posts i remember seeing. BUT...regardless of the relationship it kinda seems like they never cut him checks and he never really did the sponsored guy spiel either in every video. Id figure he got free/discounted product if he was a tester or someone who gave input during R&D or beta portions of the process...but maybe since he wasnt as big he never pushed them to cut him checks.

I figure he did eventually ask them for money or to get some checks cut just for all the notoriety and him mentioning livescope often....and garmin probably felt they had a strong enough foothold in the Live market that they didnt want that extra expense. Lowrance swooped in and made him pro team and probably cuts him checks....so now hes all in on ActiveTarget. Ive even kinda called him out on fb when he made the change about not really believing him since it was a night/day flip....but he defended it and said active target had better target separation and no ghost trees. Hard to call a guy whos had a last 2-3 months like he has a liar or say he doesnt know what hes talking about! LOL

Id buy an active target....but I do think Garmin is a step ahead of the competition, and they just rolled out the new version. When i purchase itll be a garmin....regardless of what that guy can do with the Lowrance. Unless HB rolls out a miracle update in the next month or 2 so I can save some bucks since i already got a helix.

Thank you!

Money talks for sure

Thats a great fish!

Would not crack the top 25 on Cali's big bass list... but impressive none the less!

Props to the angler.

I'm not a Josh Jones hater, I actually respect the success he has been having, but I still don't understand why he is getting so much credit for this catch when he wasn't even in the boat. I don't care what he taught his buddy...BRODEY DAVIS caught the fish.
