I build rods, personally I love the astetics of it, but I put the kabash on them at size 6. It can save some weight but at what point do you get to the diminishing returns. I also build mine as a revolver wrap so that I can go with a guide less if I so choose.

I am a part time custom rod builder, Rods By Chris. I specialize in fly rods, but just down right enjoy building custom fishing rods. I see each as a piece of art.

I only like the micro guides on rods that I use light line and no leaders. Primarily moving baits that I want to make long casts. Just my 2 cents

I'm the original poster on this thread. I recently bought a 7-foot Falcon Lowrider Composite Cranker by mail. The rod is a glass/carbon mix, and the blank is pretty big. Works good. My first fish on it was a 29" Red. Full-length cork grip, which I love. The guides are all small, and with the big blank size, it just doesn't look right. So. I replaced the two guides nearest the reel with a staggered pair of Fuji guides. Now, it looks right. IslandJim

I still have one of the original Duckett "micro magic" rods. I use it quite a bit, for swimbaits and weightless senkos. to me, it casts further, and I am able to be more accurate with my casts. I also had one of the Skeet Reese micro rods from about the same time, and it was absolute junk. most of the rods I buy now have the smaller guides, just not micro.....

There are several techniques that braid works way better than mono. Maybe you just don't fish those techniques.

I was given a new Falcon Bucoo rod as a gift almost a year ago and recently noticed it has micro guides. Seems to work fine. I don’t prefer it, but it’s working.

I don't like them.. those little holes freeze up faster in the winter... and light braid will wrap them quick if you swing and miss.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I have alot of falcons including bucoos and none have micro guides. Wonder when they were doing that?

I hate them btw. One of my stupid moments was getting talked into trading a nice compound bow I was selling for a “custom” rod that a fly by night rod builder made. It had micro guides. What a piece of junk.
