Is anyone using a truck bed rack to haul their kayak or kayaks? If so, what brand?
Just been hauling mine in the bed with the tailgate down. That works fine but I’d like to use the bed for other things on road trips.

I can go four wide when I need to. There are lots of options if you need to go three wide or less, but notice how my rack goes past the down supports a couple of inches. That makes all of the difference to getting that fourth yak up there. I installed this for the same reason, I want the bed space for trips. Nice. Are the racks pretty easy to install and remove? If I go that route I’d be swapping it out with my tonneau cover for trips or as needed.
Thanks for the links. It’s either that or maybe one of those vertical bed extenders combined with a rhino rack or similar. A bit more complex but would still allow the use of the cover.

Once you bolt it together initially, it's pretty easy to pop in and out. I don't leave it in all of the time.

Dang. I just realized my Silverado does not allow full access all the way up and down the bed rail. The first and last foot or so at each end are not accessible. That leaves only the middle for mounting really. At best I could maybe get 4’ between the rails. Might have to drill or look at other options.

Realizing how convenient it is to be a loner. 10' kayak and folding bed cover means I just drop tailgate and run down the road pretty slick. I don't need to bother with my hitch extended rack like I do with the canoe. Really nice in the spring to have the truck pre-loaded except for the cooler. Bounce out of the house and hit the road means I can be on the water for 3-4 hours before dark.

I do not use my kayak rack unless I have my mountain bikes with me on camping trips. I normally have the kayak (rods laying on kayak), ice chest(s), and luggage in the bed with the tailgate down. Kayak on one side, luggage and ice chest on the other. I run my straps through the kayak and ice chest(s) with the luggage behind the cab of the truck.
I do have a duramax with an 8' box.
