Was able to find some active Redbreast at one of my favorite hill country rivers. Fish were playful ahead of an approaching cold front . Caught about 25 Redbreast in a three hour period. Fish were all in the 7 to 9 inch range and were healthy and full of fight. Fish were holding close to grass and weed beds in 3 to 6 feet of water. Also caught a few Bluegill in the 7 to 8 inch range to round out the catch. Fish were caught using worms with a bottom technique. The river was in good condition with a good current and the water was clear. All fish were released to fight again. Fishing the hill country. It just don't get any better! fish

Thanks Steve! So far the water bodies I have been fishing are in pretty good shape. We can always use some good rain especially further south! thumb

Thanks Curt0407 for the reply. The clearer the water and condition of the water body, the nicer the colors is what I have been seeing throughout the years. Usually late February and March the sunfish will really start showing off their colors. thumb

Thanks for the reply! cheers When I use a "bottom technique", it is simply casting a worm threaded on a size 8 or 6 cricket hook where ever I think a fish is going to be. Edges of grass/weed beds, sunken timber, brush piles, overhanging tree limbs, etc. Once on the bottom I retrieve it. The speed of the retrieve depends on how aggressive (active) the fish are. If the fish are not active or non aggressive it is usually a slow retrieve. If they are active and aggressive a medium to fast retrieve. For bottoms that have a lot of snags, dead weeds/grass, etc I will usually use a float. Over the years I have gotten lucky, and have caught some pretty nice fish from the bottom. I enjoy fishing from the bottom the best. hooked
