I have a plywood deck on my flats skiff, with non-skid areas painted with beach sand added for traction. It's really great, except that after two years, the paint's coming up. I should have primed the plywood before painting. I think I used Rust-O-Leum paint? I need to strip it all off and prep the wood before re-painting. I'm wondering if anyone has used roll-on bed liner on a wooden boat deck with success? I don't know if it would be too rough? Any application tips to using it? Thanks, IslandJim

Too rough, I'd stick with the sand!
Just one more cast!

Thanks, Jimbo: I was worried about how rough the bed liner was, or if it could be thinned for smoothness. I guess the particle size controls the roughness.
I have really liked the beach sand non-skid on my current boat, and the previous one, also. I drive over to Port Aransas with a 5-gallon bucket, shovel some sand in and bring it home and sift it several times to get all the chunks out. I put a coat of paint down and sprinkle sand on it, roll it flat with a wine bottle and let it dry. I brush the loose sand off with a broom, and put a top coat of paint on and when it dries, it's really nice looking and functional non-skid. This time I will sand and prime the plywood, hoping for a better bond.
This is all on my low-tech poling skiff, a 1958 BlueStar 14 aluminum rowboat/runabout. Great flats skiff! IslandJim

look into tuff coat. I took all the carpet off my front deck of my blue wave CC and applied Tuff Coat ( search on youtube)
After prepping the surface , you apply an epoxy primer , then two coats of the rubberized paint. Not nearly as heavy as bed liner. I have had it on for a couple of years now , still looks great. You can choose the degree of texture you want.
good luck
