Gary Loomis who sold out but now produces Edge rods summed it up well !
For a true transfer of feel from rod to handle---Carbon fiber is the best thing so far. According to Gary, cork or foam is going to absorb a small amount of the feel.
I have a couple of his early Edge rods with a solid carbon fiber handle. However the new Power Tackle rods with the carbon weave are my new favorite contact rods. I bought into the Gary Loomis Edge rod hype and bought 2. I think they were assembled by drunk monkeys. dang covid time help!

Split foam....the cork after time does't look good and starts to chip off. I'm sure I could put something on to prolong the cork but give me foam. Sealing the cork when you first get the rod helps tremendously
