Nearly everything has come together perfectly for the Lake Somerville whitebass spawning run to be much better than average for 2022.
The rain fell in sufficient amounts through the new year to bring the creeks and lake to levels that make the run possible and even better than in years past.

J-Moe and I have had some early success in January with a minor rise in the Yegua but the numbers weren't there yet until now.

So it's time to fill the freezer! Head to the Lake Somerville State Park and get yourself down the the Yegua!

Enjoyed the video! Right now that's all I have, watching other people fish. I'm going to be out of the game another month or so. Good to see you guys out making it happen. I noticed my trees and bushes are loaded with buds so it's definitely time to get busy. Hopefully I can catch the tail end of the run. Seeing that Eagle in you video reminds me of the one I saw several times last year where I fish. I hope to see him at least once this year.

Enjoyed the video. I'm hoping to find some locally here in Louisiana this weekend.

I know of one Bayou off the Mississippi that supposedly has a good run. I've never fished the run itself before, but did confirm the fish spawn there as I stumbled across schools of 3-4" white bass while targeting spotted bass last June. Hoping I can get into some bigger adults if the water levels are right.

This is one of the best whitebass seasons on the Yegua in at least four years as the conditions came together just at the right time.
We have been following the whitebass all winter as they progressed up into the creek on the way to the spawning waters.
The bass are about to get the party started with both males and big females way up the creek.
This clouser type fly is what we have had the best luck with so far. The tactics to find and catch the bass have changed as the fish become more active and the water warms and clears.
The spawning should start any day now and that will require another adjustment to catch these fish but you won't catch any sitting at home!

We used to have good runs ... from Lewisville Lake up to Ray Roberts Dam. But then the log jam killed it and the hybrid run. Springs are a bit depressing if you are around that fork of the Trinity River. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlrVD6iRtyNr6n6IHNHwyVu01REHZZdnQ

That high dollar tank of fuel makes places closer to home like Bedias creek worth investigating and a good investment as it turns out...

With fuel prices going into very unfriendly territory which will for me "all but end" the frequent road trips to far off fishing holes.

At $4 a gallon my Tundra (@15MPG) costs 26.6 cents a mile making most places I fish a hefty investment for entertainment.. I wonder if I can claim this as a mental health cost wink
