Does anyone know if there’s a place that would take a trolling motor in trade? I’ve got a Minn Kota that’s about 10 years old and want to upgrade to something with the spot lock feature.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

At best you might have a tm that’s worth $2-300 at most. Even is someone took it on trade in you wouldn’t get enough to cover sales tax. Better off keeping it as a spare backup.

Keep it as a backup or give it to a new TFFer who does`nt have one on this forum. Who knows they might even offer you a donation or better still take you to one of their GOOOOOD fishing spots. I would. coolio but that`s just me

We take trade ins on used units, although be advised, of course depending what you have, the gentleman above are right: used trolling motors are not exactly worth premium dollar. PM me if we can be of help.

I've got a Fortrex on my rig that I want to replace for the same reason. I guess keeping it for a backup would be my best option. Does anybody know if all brands of trolling motor share the same foot print? Just wondered if I'd be drilling new holes going to Lowrance or Garmin.......

Before I would drill new holes in an expensive fiberglass boat I would check to see if you can drill new ones in the new trolling motor mount. I don't see how it would void the warranty on the new motor. I have done this on a couple of new motors that I've put on boats. Just makes since to me.

Both great advice. All the new TMs are a chunk of money. Should you go with a less expensive spot lock TM or would you just say bite the bullet and go with one of the top tier ones like Ultrex, Ghost, and Force?

You ain’t gonna catch any sittin’ on the couch.
