It was one of those days. Fished a club tournament at Ivie yesterday with a light 25mph breeze out of the north. Somehow managed 3rd place with 2 fish and big bass which wasn't even 5 pounds. Dog @zz tired and had another club tournament today. Get to the ramp and notice my trailer lights are out. Get out and take a look, somehow I forgot to plug in the lights and hook up the chains. I was like Ok get the oopsie out of the way early. No, it only gets worse from there. Back the boat in, per her in reverse and back off the trailer. Boat won't steer, yup I forgot to take the steering clips off. That should have been my sign it wasn't going to be my day. Get to my first spot and catch a few dinks and 2 small keepers. Decided to move and when I took off got a shower of spray across the bow. Yup, forgot to pull up the trolling motor. Temp was about 29 degrees at the time so that spray was invigorating. But wait, there's more. Make a run to the complete opposite side of the lake and when I got there, I noticed my fuel gauge was one E.

I’m a firm believer that the saying “a bad day of fishing, is better than a good day of work” is false. I’ve had some pretty miserable days at the lake.

One time I left my transom saver attached to the boat and it bent my prop nicely. Then it started pouring bad and realized my bibs were nice and dry still hanging up at my house.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Those days remind me that one little missing step in my prep ritual can go south quickly. Backed into the garage with the rear anchor light rod still installed so many times that it's not funny. My boat prep ritual is systematic, but I finally launched without a plug last year. 35 years it took me, and i laughed at so many people until I took off from the ramp and thought i forgot to put the tilt all the way down. It takes a bit to pump out the boat. Sometimes i think im loosing my darn mind trying trying to find my cheaters, when they are on my nose .

Strange thing for me, when things like this happen something happens later in the day that turns into a blessing for me or someone else. It's funny to say after the fact, but that situation would have never happened if all those bumps in the road didn't occur. The Good Lord works in mysterious ways .

Im a half full glass type of person, not a complainer. Life it too short for drama.

Amen. Last week while kayaking at Galveston SP, I forgot my wade boots at home. I turtled the kayak while fighting a 19" speck and reaching over for the net that drifted away. I had to wade to the nearest bank in knee deep mud and this would have not been good with my boots.

One morning a few years ago I made the trek to Oklahoma to go fly fishing. Up at 6 am and hit the river around 9. Go to put on my waders and had packed my wife waders. Could hardly get one leg in. Just sucked it up and wet waded.

I gassed up for a tournament on Sam a couple of years ago. I put 50 gallons of gas in the bot and headed to the lake. I dumped the boat early to avoid the crowd at the ramp. I had someone back me in and floated off the trailer. I was running a cold starting nightmare of an Evinrude Vindicator so it wasn't unusual that it would be hard to start. I ran the trolling motor to the bank and cranked on it. It would not start. I noticed that my lights on the dash were not working. I hit the gas gauge with the head lamp and boom....she was on E. The area had been hit by a sophisticated group of gas thieves the night before and I got drained. I had to make the walk of shame up the hill after takeoff to put her on the trailer. The lady at Colemans laughed at me as I gassed up the rig. She really didn't buy "the meth heads stole my gas overnight". Anyway.......

Everyone had those days.

My Ultrex broke again a few weeks ago. It died about two hours into a Saturday tourney. I decided to give up and went home and “fixed” it by cleaning all the battery connections. Decided to try another tourney Sunday. Paid the entry, went through the livewell check, launched and went to the first stop. Trolling motor dead again. Loaded up, licked my wounds, and was back home by 9am.

I forgot it had a plug that likes to wiggle loose under the pedal. I didn’t have my tools to remove everything and check it while I was 100 miles from home.
