Navionics Platinum or C-Maps Reveal. Which do you like best and why?

I can’t post a picture from a current Navionics, here’s the maps that come with the BPS Carbon special. This is for Lake Belton. I would love for someone to post a picture from the Navionics card and the C-map reveal.

The first map is the built in C-map.





This is the C-map card that comes in the box. You can do some shading on the card, but it’s kinda challenging to get it how I really want it. I guess I need to see if this card has a free update with it, not much info in the box about it. I almost threw it away, thinking it was just trash, tiny little envelope.

The card that came with your Carbon was the Discovery Card. It has all the same data as Cmap Reveal less the Shaded Relief. The Depth Shading is great on all CMap cards you have lots of colore and lots of depths to choose from, Compared to the 2 or 3 you can do for Navionics. The Descovery covers all of North America and you can update the card for free for 1 year on the CMap Website. This guy does a great job in explaining Depth Shading on CMap. Hope this helps

Larry, I’m am so thankful that you posted that link on how to work the c-map shading. Holy fricking moly, never in my lifetime, did I think something could be so complicated. It’s fantastic when I finally got it pretty much figured out, but at first, what a mess!

Glad this helped and you can take advantage of another tool that so many miss out on.I have been asking Lowrance for more colors and set up profiles in stead of 2 as I think the possibilities for improving this tool are great. I would like to have about 10 profiles or Lakes to setup by so you can dial in all those creeks and depths, ete. Once you start using this it gets easier to change on a different lake by usually just a couple of Depth Changes. Enjoy

Hey Larry, question and maybe you know. As mentioned above, I bought the BPS carbon 12, has the built in c-map and came with the Discovery card. Then I found a new Carbon 16 and purchased it, (not from BPS obviously) it said it had c-maps insight built in. When attempting to shade it, it will not shade water columns like the card. Is the built in map just a basic map. Not a big deal if it won’t, I’m just curious if I’m doing something wrong.


Got the 12 with the card setup and really like it.

The Carbons did not come with CMap it was a CMap/Insight pro map which is a hybrid, but not full CMap that is why it does not do Depth Shading. That is why they sent the Discovery Card with Ea Carbon.
