Central Texas Fishing Summary – Week of 31 January – 06 February – 207 Fish

TOTAL CATCH FOR THE WEEK: 207 FISH – 100% caught & released

TRIPS RUN: 2 trips

AVERAGE CATCH PER TRIP: 103.5 fish/trip

ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY: All of this past week’s fishing was pre-frontal, prior to the arrival of Winter Storm Landon; with water temperatures in the low 50s, aggressive feeding spurts are short-lived with fish taking faster presentations when feeding, and near-deadsticked presentations before and after feeding.

TUESDAY AM PHOTO CAPTION: From left: Otto Reidel and Dwight Stone. Balmy conditions and grey skies with a light SE breeze were just right for white bass this morning. That white bass in Dwight’s right hand is a 14 3/8″ Lake Belton white bass — you don’t come across many of those in a year’s time on Belton. Shirtsleeves in February won’t be lasting long as a winter storm is due in Wednesday evening!!

WEDNESDAY AM PHOTO CAPTION: The impact of pre-frontal weather was readily observed Wednesday. The fish were aggressive, the birds were working, and the number of suspended fish, both active and neutral, was remarkable. Rain moved in on the lead edge of Winter Storm Landon beginning about an hour after our trip; temps fell below freezing overnight, and stayed below freezing until Saturday, thus creating an icing danger on Thursday, Friday, and into Saturday.

TRIP SUMMARIES:
MONDAY – no trip scheduled

What: 100 fish, including 14 freshwater drum, 1 largemouth bass, 11 short hybrid striped bass, and 74 white bass.

Friday... driving from appointment to appointment visiting with with customers. Business is good right now, but my mind was elsewhere... it was on the lake or a creek imagining how I would be smokin' the sand bass on a day like Friday. Well I am grateful for my job and supporting my family. Then I get Saturday... yeah... 20-30 mph winds and temps in the low 40's.

Bob, what app do you use for weather? Especially looking for good barometric pressure data. I saw you called it a "Wx snapshot."

Slick Rick,

I've pasted in a sequence of photos which take you through a Google search to get to the weather forecast I use, produced by the National Weather Service...

STEP 1. Use Google to search for the term "National Weather Service"

[Linked Image]

STEP 2. Using the search box under the National Weather Service, type in the name of the town nearest the body of water you want the weather forecast for (my example uses Salado).

[Linked Image]

STEP 3. The NWS search will result in a 7-Day Forecast as show below...

[Linked Image]

STEP 4. Click on that 7-Day Forecast and you will get a forecast which looks like the one below...

[Linked Image]

STEP 5. Look for the "Hourly Weather Forecast" (the text is in blue, and I've circled it in red). Click on it, and it will take you to your final, desired forecast...
