Been finished with work early the last few days and trying to fish somewhere close by for a couple of hours before dark. Hate fishing the same lake twice in a row but launched from the same ramp and fished a totally different area. Had three rods with me.. one with a jig without a trailer, one with a spinnerbait, and one with an underspin with a craw. Wanted to see if one was better than the other as I usually always have one rigged with spinnerbait. Hit some spots I'd marked a few years ago and had never been back to.

Caught a good one quick on underspin and craw at first marked spot. I've never thrown that combination before, though I throw an underspin with hollow belly swimbait all the time. I'm fired up and just getting started. Circle the spot looking to see whats going on down under... bait and structure. Nothing going on at the next three spots but there is bait. Remember this one place I'd graphed before where I'd seen crappie fishermen many times. Get in position as this spot looked great.. lots of bait and fish. Throw spinner bait a couple of times...nothing. Throw craw on underspin, nothing. Last but not least I throw the jig. I've dragged it all the way back, feel it going over a limb and then let it fall back down. I'm almost right on top of it as it falls to bottom and just barely lift it...Boom! I get slammed and this fish isn't budging. Its pulling drag and I've got my heavy rod with 20 lb test fluro and I'm panicked. It's still on bottom and goes under kayak wraps me as I release drag in hopes it doesn't bust me off. Don't know what it was but had it on for 5 minutes as it was hung up and I finally give it some slack and it takes it quick. Don't know what it was big blue, bowfin, or bass but it got the best of me. I waited for 15 minutes in hopes it would come out and never did. Got my plug knocker out to see if that might help.. it didn't. Never put that much pressure on it after it first hung me up but eventually my line came loose and it had busted off. Oh well, win some loose some, I'll be throwing a jig more often now.

Caught this one yesterday on a spinner bait fished like a jig.

Today’s best on underspin.

With both hands and mouth closed it was 22 inches.

Put it on donkey leash to get scales out. 5 lbs 2 oz.. I’m going to catch a hog this weekend. roflmao

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I don't know which is worse for me, the donkey that I never see and lose or the big one that I see and know is a big bass but lose. Congrats on the ones caught and yes, stick with the jig!
