I have caught lots of nice crappie out of the Sabine. The shoals is a great area if water conditions are right. Normally pick up some nice ones while white bass fishing during late February and March. It's all about current, water levels and flow. I have always done better on crappie in low water conditions when its running 2000 or less. Look for log jams, eddies and other slack current. Good luck
