Tested out the garmin echo map ultra 126SV for the first time yesterday. Spent most on the time just adjusting settings to see what works best. I was able to dial in to see my drop shot rig 30-40 feet out and even saw some fish come look at it then turn around. I didn’t mind as that’s really all I was trying to do is see what I can see. I could never see bigger moving baits until they were close to the boat. Why is that? Chatterbaits and crankbait. I know people will say throw an a-rig, you’ll see it just fine. But I want to be able to see other things than just an a rig. Any suggestions? What was I doing wrong?

So many variables. What were settings (TVG, interference, ghost reject, gain, color gain, palette, range and depth). What I did to learn to see my bait was find a piece of structure that came above the water line (rock or tree usually). I would find it with my livescope and then start casting a suspending jerkbait to that cover. That way I could learn how to find the bait cause I knew it was somewhere between the structure and my livescope. Once I figured out what settings helped see my bait the best then I started moving farther away from the structure to the point where I could see the bait at 60’ which was far enough for me. Sorry about the long winded ness. Hopefully it helps . Also be advised that there is a new update for the livescope that really really is awesome. It just came out a couple of days ago and it’s going to make seeing your bait a whole lot easier .

Would that imply that it’s in the looking down position now?

Yes 4 - 8 Megabits is plenty. I bought a 16 off Amazon today. I know anything larger is not suggested. It will be the regular size card adaptor with a microchip that goes in it. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B010Q57SEE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1So many variables. When you go out again to try it pay attention to when the larger lures come into the screen. Like someone said, it may need adjusting up.

I have 4 trips on the LS, about 30 hours behind the wheel. The first trip was mounted on the trolling motor, the next trip was on a homemade pole. I like the pole 100X better. Spent all day out on Grapevine sniping large sandbass out in the middle of the lake. This is how I setup my unit. I watched all the videos online, and they were spot on. I will tell you the mount that comes with the unit has a 8 degree offset, so I 3d printed a mount to shoot straight down. This helped tremendously, as the offset really didn't make sense to me. Noise reject high Tvg off Color gain @ 83% Fine tune gain (I stay around 55-63%, slightly hot). Here is a clip from today, and the 6xd knocked them dead. It really culls the small fish, and I did this all afternoon. Now I didn't catch a ton of fish, maybe 30"ish. But it was really fun. Learning a tremendous amount from the livescope, just leave the bank and head out to deep water and the shad are solid. If your not getting bites on the bank there is a reason. If you have questions shoot me an IM, I will give you the exact settings. The pole might be for everyone, but I like to spot lock and the pole will allow me to continue to look around.

I do all my updates using my iPhone and the Active Captain App. Once you learn how to use it it’s really easy and fast. I’ve been using Garmin and the AC App for a year and a half now and couldn’t be happier and I am very much technologically challenged .

I can see topwater and bottom bouncing and can catch fish 50 feet plus deep with it. Everyone is different and how they use it different.

I use position 3 and no problems here. I can see my lure and every fish that won't bite it.

I am also a number three guy. Some have said they like the port side number one better. I tried it and didn’t notice a difference so I went back to starboard.
