I've replaced the seals on my hydraulic steering a couple times and I'm still having trouble with leaks. The cheaper seals on eBay don't last long. I found some that claim to be factory OEM seals, but they look just like the cheap ones. My original ones lasted several years and they had black seals. The cheap ones I've used are orange. Anyone had this issue ?? And what did you end up buying to resolve this issue ?? Thx

I work on hydraulic equipment as part of my job. Make sure there is no galling inside the cylinder, on the piston, or rod ends. If they aren't absolutely slick smooth no amount of seal changing will fix it.

I've done several seal replacements for myself and friends with no problems. If you have ANY scratches, slight galling, etc., you have a never ending problem. Bite the bullet and replace the whole cylinder.

Not wanting to highjack this thread but, I have been having problems with my Ultraflex and small leaks for a few years. I can't for the life of me figure this one out. There are the two hoses connected to the back and two ports with brass plugs in them. I have done everything I can to keep anything from leaking from the hose connections. I have also tried several o-rings on the brass plugs. I could swear it's leaking from somewhere else. I spoke to Ultraflex who told me that there is nothing else to replace.

Well I broke down and spent $130 for factory OEM seals. I visited with a friend who's a boat mechanic and he said not to waste my time on cheap boat parts anytime. He said the Amazon parts are cheap and you get what you pay for. So note to self and anyone reading this......

I've researched this before I replaced my seals, if your piston rods are dinged or damaged it won't matter if you put the best OEM seals ever built, its going to damage them the first time you turn full left or right. BTW I replaced with the amazon seals 2 years ago and no leaks.

As others have said, check cyl. wall and rod for nicks . Also notice that people go to the back of the boat to pee often put their foot on the steering rod to steady theirself, therefore putting weight on the seals. I don't know if it puts a flat spot or what but not only me but several of my buddies was having the same issues and we all started monitoring it and making an effort to make sure no one put any side weight on the rod and stopped a bunch of the leaking and also use the blocks or rubber clips that fit over the rod to keep the motor from flopping back and forth during trailering.

If your gonna pee while standing at the back of the boat......use the power pole brackets, that's what I've found to be the graeatest function for them...you have a foot brace and a handle to hold onto.
