BCB and I gave it the old college try yesterday. My iPhone failed us. I hoped we had some video but I ended up with very little. At one point in the morning we had a triple with a 22, a 14 and a 27. Action was pretty steady all day. We ran three drift. The totals from each were:

Drift 1 - 5, 23, 10, 22, 14, 27
Drift 2 - 29, 43, 6, 14, 36, 40, 13
Drift 3 - 9, 24, 8, 17

I had to call it a day to get home in time for Jer to get home from school. I have no doubt we could have kept going probably until dark with the same results...

We were in 35 to 40 feet of water, surface temp was 48 degrees. Weather went from sunny to overcast, wind was east then south then southwest and light all day. Had to use the trolling motor to pull boards. Wind and sky cover didn't seem to matter.

The Mad Catz rods were flawless and the triple threat 8/0 and 10/0 did their job too. I think we missed 3 fish all day...

I will say that the fish are not eating shad right now. I think they have a tendency to do that when it gets colder. Use the other bait fish you can get. Drum, Buffalo, Bream, etc...

By the way, I've mentioned that I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all my catches this year. So for January, since yesterday was my last trip of the month, the totals are:

Total number of fish - 45
Total weight of fish - 859 pounds
Fish in the 40s - 4
Fish in the 30s - 4
Big fish of the month 48 (twice)

Now I think the trend is gonna be downward as things warm up but what a start to the year!

Way to go Tim! Heck I was working buddy! I wanna be like Tim! We’re travel fishing again this Sunday but haven’t decided on where to go. Was thinking Twok but I haven’t got any intel and hearing your report has me thinking about Lavon! Really wanting to catch one over 50lbrs so I was leaning towards Twok but if I can’t get any intel today then we’ll probably hit Your fishery!

The day started cold and despite spotting the bait, it was down deep and getting decent sized fish in the net proved challenging. We managed to some with a taped net, after a few tries.

The action when it started was insane, and as Tim pointed out, having three big cats in the boat at once was crazy with us both laughing up a storm.

The action was pretty much non stop and I for one was completely worn out when we had to call it a day. I’ve said it before, that guys like Tim make it look easy, but it ain’t!

This morning I am pinching myself to make sure it wasn’t just a dream!

Sounds good Bob. We’ll be the big bay boat hooting and hollering and yelling Yee Hah every 15 minutes! What do you want to put up for the winning boat? Bottle of Whisky? I know it’s your home lake buddy but I used to fish it quite a bit before we had Jaxon. I don’t know it as well as some of the other lakes we fish but I’m fairly comfortable on it. I’m going to have my guide buddy and life long fishing mentor on my boat as well as Killer Bee so you know I’m gonna do everything in my power to put up a good showing for those boys. We’re also live streaming which tends to pile on some extra pressure!

All kidding aside, I hope y’all hammer em and have an epic day! I’m not real competitive when it comes to fishing unless you tell me your better than me. I’m looking to make memories. Nothing like putting in the work and catching big fish on your own boat too. Tim has been great to you and you really owe him big time! Now let’s see what Bluecat Bob can do when he’s the captain!

Epic day for sure Tim. We will be out there tomorrow. First time trying Lavon in the winter. Wish me luck. I will report back.

Matt If you stick to the deep water and you have good baits, (non-shad baits) Drum, Bream, etc. You should smoke em. Good luck and good hunting!

I ain’t the brightest kid on the block, but even I figured out I can bank on catching 1/10 of what Tim catches when I go solo.
