Have any of you gone from 12v to 24v and used the wiring that came with the boat? I'm going from a 55# 12v to a 70# 24v, is the reason I ask. I don't have the boat here at the house so I can't tell you what gauge is in it as this time. TIA

24v will draw similar amps then the 12v, depending on model maybe 4 or 5 more at most. If the wiring you have was adequate for the 12 it will work fine for the 24, just need a jumper wire to put between the 2 batteries.

Yep, I went from 12V to 24V in my old boat and used the same stock wiring with out an issue.

I would think they have 6g in all boats, unless it’s a Tracker, then maybe they ran 8g. Definitely have to check the breaker and verify that it’s big enough for the new TM.

It's a MK Maxxum and I have a 50 amp breaker. According to the MK website, they say that the 70# draws 42 amps. I should be ok with 6 or 8 gauge either way. And (unless it's a Tracker) you hit the nail on the head........again!!

Minn Kota has a really good chart on their website --- it shows voltages , amps and run length for each lb thrust motor . I went from a 55lb to an 80lb and needed to switch to a larger wire . Not that hard , 18 foot boat .

if it is 8ga I would suggest you upgrade to at least 6ga. and 4 would be even better.

smaller wire means more resistance and heat along with voltage drop.

8ga will work for 12v and 24v. Check your breaker and make sure it will work with 24v, add a jumper between the two batteries and you're good to go.
