Hey guys, I have an older โ€˜05 skeeter sx190. It has an ultrex on it currently. Previous owner mounted with self tapping screws and they are starting to pull loose. I need to go back in with bolts and nuts. Anyone have experience in. Punting these your self? Or should I look at having someone do it. Rod lockers are pretty small and not sure if I can get up in there to the nuts. Thanks for any oneโ€™s input.

You should be able to remove that piece of plastic enough to get your hand in there. All your wiring in in there so just be careful picking it up.

The absolute best way is with SS bolts, fender washers and nylok nuts from below. Not familiar with that boat, but have rigged my ZX200's since 2002. I'd guess about the same. You should be able to reach from the bow plate hole.

If you positively can't reach underneath, then the Motor Guide rubber isolators work tolerably well. I had to use them at one corner of two boats because it was impossible to reach. Surely better than screws.

Trick: When you are working underneath the deck, tie a string to your wrench. You WILL drop it and it's almost impossible to retrieve.

Note you may have to pull the side covers off the Ultrex mount to reach all the bolts.

Keep bandages and a tourniquet handy. You will be bleeding.

Telescoping magnet comes in handy too. Although it won't retrieve SS. I use mine quite often.

The last one I installed was to far forward to reach the furthest front bolts, so I drilled and tapped two pieces of aluminum flat strap 2โ€ wide 3/8โ€ thick. I was able to hold the aluminum backing plate from the rear to start the forward bolts. Extremely solid mount, was on a 20โ€™ Lowe CC.

I was bent and twisted working the fender washer, lock washer, lock nut & a wrench underneath while I had another person work the ratchet turning the bolt up top.
I got 4 of them in like this. If my trolling motor comes off, it's taking the whole nose of the boat with it.
