All it takes to bust 17 is the right genetics a diet of trout and a long growing season.

This is all just incredible to me. Bound to be a state record fish in there and maybe even a world record. It seems that most of these bigguns are being caught suspended in deeper water. I don't know the water temp there but what's it gonna be like when they start staging for the spawn, the spawn and post spawn? Hang on there now boys. State Record, maybe... A 15 is a legitimate giant but it is nowhere near what I consider the World Record of 25.1. I'm sure that will spark a debate but foul hooked or not that should be the WR in my opinion. A 15 pounder is another world away from 25 pounds. Agree totally. Ivie has shown us clearly the upper limits of bass on not only Ivie but most Texas lakes. It's 14-16lbs. Now what has to happen is you get a freak fish within that same genetic class. A 28" freak or similar to our record of 18 which is pretty much a perfect football at 25ish x 25ish. Takes a special fish to bust 17... Yep! I have been on Casitas in the winter and the water temp is 50. In the summer the high temp is 80. That is like air conditioning for the fish. Add rainbow trout to that and the fish grow fast with much less stress on them. The top 25 bass in Cali are all over 19# and their lakes don't have grass The winters here in North TX are cold and the summers are hot. Fork water temps will vary from 39 in the winter to 92 in the summer. That is hard on an old (10 yrs) fish and limits the longevity. I have said for many years that the ceiling for bass in Texas is 16 pounds. Would I love to be proved wrong? You darn right!

I know one thing, there’s a whole lot less bass in Ivie now, than there was. Just might be reason enough that the record won’t be broken if all the fish keep getting removed.

Even at the famous Camelot Bell the ceiling seems to be 16 pounds. Like I said I would love to see Texas bust 20# but the history ain't there.

Makes sense, if a fish factory that’s feeding them like Camelot is stuck at 16, then you might be correct. My buddy swears he saw a bass that would go over 20 in Lake Amistad a few years back. I think he saw a carp and mistook it for a bass, he is sticking to his story though.

Weren’t 2 over 20 found dead at Fork back in its glory days? That proves it’s possible, though I agree Texas doesn’t have the ideal conditions found in the Casitas/Castiac/Dixon area to make it likely.

I saw a fish the spring after I caught my 15 at CB that I feel would bust 20 but they're awfully hard to weigh when they're still swimming.

Congrats.
Kind of shows you what a Lake can produce if you just leave it alone and not spray. IMO Ivie’s grass disappeared with the low water and very little gas come back. While I agree with you this isn’t the case at Ivie. No spraying has occurred there.
