I don't think Putin does anything for a while. Just the threat of invasion keeps oil prices up.. an invasion would cause a big price increase in oil/gas short term but long term would cause world wide recession, the U.S. would increase production, and long term much lower oil prices. Or maybe he does invade to be entertained by how politics in the U.S. would respond.

The Russians want to control the oil markets with Saudi Arabia y controlling the water ways and land pipelines so they can provide energy to Europe
They can then with SA help control a very large part of the oil markets with China and change the currency of oil from the dollar to anything else which destroys our banking systems by control what is used to pay for the oil. That will also keep us from putting sanctions on them to keep them from selling their oil. China and Russia are working together to destroy us from a financial stance so we can’t fight a war. They got Biden to shut off our drilling so we can’t just start it back up In case of war we don’t have foundries any more so we can provide our own iron to built ships and war equipment
The dollar is the final straw to destroying us and if they suck us back into a war to finish leering our wealth they can walk in and take us over
