Since buying the livescope system for the front of the boat, I'm super pumped about the upcoming season of fishing ( which I intend to primarily fly fish). Loading the arsenal of baits to go with a couple of new rods/reels designed for bass fly fishing. I'd eat em if I were a bass....

Bass are fun on top. Those ought to do the trick. I like deer hair divers the most when chasing bass up in shallow water. Dahlberg divers is another name. [Linked Image]

Seems like plain old Olive deer hair is the best for consistent action.

Thanks! Those divers look good as well. I'm gonna have to research the technique and give it a try.

Nice job PerksOutdoors thumb

I tie and use Llano Bugs and the Tedrick Beginners Froggy fly for bass fishing. Those divers are awesome. I wish I had the patience to make them.

I did some more deer hair divers. These are easier to tie than maybe it might seem. Spinning deer hair isn’t a tricky or slow or delicate process. Put a clump of body or belly hair, tighten down the thread, do a few tight wraps, pack to the back, done, repeat. Put in whatever colors you want.

A two sided old fashioned razor is what I like for trimming away hair. I make a mostly flat underside just below the hook shank. Trim A little at a time until you get the shape you like. No two need to come out exactly like the other, there isn’t a perfect shape on these. Some might dive a bit deeper or float lower or higher. There’s zero need to make these like some perfect robot army where each one is identical to the next. Certainly, the fish will not care.

those look good! deer hair is a material I have never had much luck with. I always end up with hair bits all over the bench and floor.

Definitely, I tie out in the garage and use the leaf blower to clean it all up. Trimming deer hair is messy.

Those look really cool. I’ve never done any deer hair spinning. One reason is because of the mess it makes. I do have several poppers I’ve tied up recently out of the foam bodies. Looking forward to catching some bass when this weather straightens out a bit.
