Where’s J Peel, (actually in Arizona) a converted and dedicated big swim bait fisherman, met him on Monticello in 2007 when I was up north throwing frogs and 5 inch swim baits through the pads and catching 40 + fish a day with most over 5 pounds.
He was just learning how to fish 12 inch rat baits. They were impressive, within a year he sold most of his normal rods and tackle. Only throwing big baits. He has some good stories. Took him to Hubbard creek a couple years ago his 2nd or 3rd cast was a 10 pounder, then he caught a couple of small 7 pounders.

Man, what a coincidence! Sitting here in Phoenix sipping a whiskey and decide to see what's up on the TFF for the first time in months, and there's a big swimbaits thread! Syd, that trip got me hooked again and has cost me a lot of money since!

All I will say is that if you're going to dabble in the big baits a little bit, you might have some success, but more than likely you'll just throw money away. But if you want a "big" swimbait that you don't have to be a dedicated swimbait fisherman to have success with get a DRT tiny klash or K9 with different style lips and tails and fish it everywhere you'd throw a jerkbait or square bill. Damn things produce even here in the desert! Just don't waste money on the cheap knock-offs.

Hey, James, good to see you on here again. You got me into big swim baits and even though I don't throw them as much as I should,,,,I do still throw them but mostly in the spring. I love it when they smack that thing and then the battle is on. I have had gulls diving down on my Lunker Punkers as I was working them....LOL, funny thing to watch as they get so close to it before they realize that it is not real.

Where is his shop? I have a bunch of Fringe baits that I got at Fishing World in Dallas.

Our lakes are full of 8" gizzard shad. They look exactly like the hph gizzard swimbait. Not that that's the only bait to throw, they will eat the deps 250, hinkle shad, and all the rest as well. You also don't have to go super expensive. The s waver is a great bait, plenty of big plastic baits, bucca shad, etc.
