Serviced my G56 recently. Manufacture calls for 6.2 qts of fluid. Lots of talk online with guys putting in 7 which I did. Lots of discussion on dodge forums of types of oil to use. But almost everyone agrees to 7 quarts rather than 6 across the boar from what I remember.

So now I have this last quart of high dollar transmission fluid just sitting in a bottle for at least another 50k miles.

Anyone with this transmission ever just add that 8th quart to make it an even 2 gallons in the transmission? There's plenty of room for another quart. Other than it possibly burning out the inner shifter boot from that hot oil splashing up on it I don't know if it would be an issue.

8 is to much the fluid will not be able to cool properly. and a g56 takes fluid that's about 50.00 a gallon..it does not use syncromesh just incase you did not know that. The g56 is a Mercedes based design and made transmission and a good one if taken care off .Parts are hard to get last coupe years and expensive when I have had to rebuild them for customers.

So, do they REQUIRE some special fluid or is that what’s is spec’ed by RAM? They spec something like a $30-40 a quart zf fluid for the 8 speed auto in my RAM but good old $17 a gallon valvoline works perfectly. I can only imagine that in the manual transmission that specific fluid is even less necessary.

I loved my G56 wish I still had it.

SAE 50 Synthetic Transmission Oil By
Amsoil
Lucas
Delo
Blue Diamond makes a G56 specific oil
add some Lubegard gear fluid supplement if you want

SAE 50 Transmission Oil Is what is called for

all Work good and is what I have used in a fleet of 30 hot shot trucks with the G56 Trans and they all have over 500,000 on them
the people who used or skimp on the correct oil burn out bearings and get rebuilds around 250,000. Just what I have personally seen and delt with.
Chrysler screwed up when they just started saying ATF 4 in these to get away from he original Mobil Delvac made oil, because Mobil Delvac Dist. make you order a minimum every order then your stuck with it for along time.
I still miss the NV5600

I have the NV4500HD. The only problem with it was on ones before I bought my truck. The fifth gear would come lose and they had a fix to lock it into place. Mine has been bulletproof with only one Amzoil gear lube change.

Each transmission is different. In mine the word was to put 1/4 to 1/2" lower than the fill hole. In the first oil change the old gear lube was black. The Amzoil looked new when I changed it the second time at 150k.
Should I change it again when it gets to 250k? I have not looked at it since 150k.

Sorry, I never did get back to this thread.
I used Mobil Delvac Transmission Fluid SAE 50 (silver bottle)

Your thoughts on that? It was expensive like you mentioned. I paid $55/gallon. But didn't want to go cheap with my transmission because I want it to last.
