Hello everyone. I'm considering getting lasik and would love to hear your thoughts. I've had 20/20 vision my whole life up until the time I didn't... within a 4 month time frame, things up close began getting blurry, very blurry. I can see great at a distance, but daily activities like paying a bill / signing the receipt, I can't see it without reading glasses. Tying a hook, etc. I wear reading glasses when needed, but would love to be free of them again.

Any suggestions about where to go / where not to go would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to hear recommendations, horror stories, success stories. (Especially if anyone has a "don't go there" story).

Will your eyesight continue to deteriorate after lasik? If you are having such a sudden change, I'd hate to see you have it fixed, then need it again a year later.

I don't know they answer to this at all... just my first thought reading the OP. At least may be a question for your doc.

I had LASIK done around 10 years ago. I’ve been very happy with it and I’ve not seen my vision change. If I remember right, you can pay a couple extra hundred that will pay for future procedures should you vision change post surgery.

I needed bifocals so I chose monovision correction. Your dominate eye is set to see long distance. The non-dominate eye is corrected to see close up for reading…..and tying lures. Your brain knows which eye you need to use and it adjusts accordingly.

It was hard for me to focus on in between distances, not far and not close. I worked on a computer all day and found I was having trouble seeing the screen clearly. About 18 inches away.

I’ve got a pair of prescription sunglasses for driving. I’ve been told you can’t pass the DPS eye test with monovision.

If your long range vision has not deteriorated I would just get some good reading glasses.

Much cheaper and if you get Lasik you will probably still need them.

I got Lasik free from a drawing at a Bass Champs tournament around 18 years ago.
I had worn glasses since a kid and my eyesight required glasses or contacts to do most anything.
For me it was the best thing I could have done for my eyesight but I would not have done it if my sight was as good as yours.

my wife had it in her late 30's , today she is 60 and still has excellent post surgery eyesight . She would tell you it was the best money we ever spent . The liability waiver scared to tar outa her , but she eventually signed it and moved forward .

I had it in 2003, when I was about 37-38. Still need glasses to read, but still 20/15 at distance (which was my issue). I did it from a now retired basically cattle-call doctor but it has turned out well for me.

I am about one year in to having Lasik done and it has been great. I could not function w/o glasses or contacts prior to having it done and I wish I had got it sooner. It did hurt more than I thought, the initial procedure wasn't that bad, but after it was done my eyes did hurt for a couple days, but that is understandable considering they cut and shoot a laser into your eye. By day three or four I didn't have any discomfort. I will still have to use readers as I age but that is completely normal.I had a bad astigmatism in one eye, Lasik corrected it.
