How do you find out if the plants are discharging or not? I don’t want to drive 3 hours to like Brandy Branch and get there and not be discharging? Is there somewhere to see like a schedule?

Not aware of any. Have you tried looking at the Plant Operators website?

Here is Fayette County Reservoir's plant operator website http://fayette-plant.edan.io/ No mention of generating or not.

If not mentioned on site, I would just call and let them know I'm a fisherman (not a terrorist) and would like to know if they are currently generating power.

Okie by birth, Texan by choice.

That is a very odd website.

Even if you tell them you're a fisherman and not a terrorist, I'm not sure they would give you that real-time information.

And I second Rayzor's comment, that is a very unusual URL for a legitimate organization to use.

I’ve been to Fayette many times and during all times of the year and I have never been when the power plant was not generating. Always current flowing from discharge.

Don't know anywhere to check on Brandy Branch, but it was NOT generating 4 days ago. Water temp was in the 60's.

Yep, going to miss it as it is only 20 minutes from the house.
PS: As of today 01/07/22, it is back online. Not sure how long it will run, it depends on if it stays cold for awhile.

Brandy Branch for sure. I have a friend that just retired from there and he said it was for sure closing. There have been numerous articles in the Longview News Journal and the Marshall News Messenger about the closing of the Pirkey Power Plant, which is what keeps Brandy Branch warm.
