Guys, I need some advice here. I found what might be a pretty good boat to buy. It has a pair of 10 foot Talons on it, premium electronics and Ultrex. The boat is a 2021 so everything is pretty new-ish. We are a couple of old timers who will be fun fishing, (no tournaments). if the wind is blowing that much, we will probably just hang it up and go home. I am thinking maybe buy the boat, have the Talons removed and see if I can sell them. I think in our case, having the stern to fish from as well as the side benefits the back seater more than the Talons would. My question for y'all is 1) Are the like new Talons, brackets, controls, etc worth anything ?? and 2) Is removing them a dumb idea ??

imho... if you really don't think you'll use them that often, then I'd remove them. They are definitely worth something! Quite a bit of something, in fact. I doubt you'd have them for long.

Agreed. They're a luxury. Handy if you use them, big time in the way if you don't.

I would sure try them first before taking them off. To be able to drop them and the boat becomes solid sure makes for some easy fishing, not to mention using them around the dock. My buddy has a 2021 with talons and I fish out of the back of it and they don’t bother me at all. Either way sounds like you have found yourself a great boat.

Try them out, i know people like to use them if you beach the boat, at the boat dock and other uses. I can see it being helpful on a slightly breezy day and you need to stay put in shallow water. Running spot lock constantly just eats battery and can still spook fish.

I had 10’ talons on my last boat. I never had an issue with them in the 3 years I ran the boat. If you get the boat, get the newer style foot stomps (power pole style) for them. Way better than the small buttons!

i fish out of a 521 ranger with a ultrex and a 10' talon and i use both every trip about 50-50. don't make any decisions until you have used them about 6 months.

Agreed, someone would buy them... it's kinda like a duel console, sure you can learn to fish around it but you gain more "usable" room without them, plus you don't have to worry about going under bridges - like on T'wok, and either smacking them or the hassle of tipping them down, backing into a regular garage and having to tip em down... and you already have thought of how they can get in the way of the guy on the back deck, but you can look on the bright side, at least they won't be smacking the motor cowl any more on a cast, they'll smack the talon first.... LOL

Ok ok…. I’ll drive over and remove them, and I’ll only charge you $100.

In all seriousness, If you’re a crappie guy drowning minnows in 30’, chasing sandies, dragging a worm over points… talons will get in your way, increase fuel consumption, and always irk you. The ultrex will be able to spotlock you just about the same as the talons would.

If you do see yourself wanting to be in 9’ or less water and anchor without spotlock, the talons are awesome at what they do. If these are Gen 3 talons, they will fit in a standard garage without the need to tilt, interface to the ultrex i-Pilot, and hummingbird graphs.

Try them for a little bit first. Just the benefit of launching with them will probably make you want to keep them. 10 footers aren't that tall so they won't really be in the way

I have both Talons and an Ultrex and as some have said above, I use them both every time I go fishing. I do not fish in wind over 10 mph, but the Talons still make the day much more enjoyable. The boat has them, consider yourself lucky and keep them.

That Jon is expensive. I'll remove them for $19.99. Love my Talons. No way I would take mine off.

I am about as Old School as you can get and my son in law Eric bought a Ranger so we could fish together which doesn’t have them. I have a buddy Craig that I also fish with every so often who does have them and at least the way me and Eric fish the one thing he decided for this year was to get some. We both have realized how truly often they would be used and can’t wait to get them.
