I recently re ignited my interest in flyfishing and have started tying a little too. I have a 10 ft 5 wt. I am really looking forward to the white bass run, especially the one on the Sabine. Sometimes the whitebass are up shallow but a lot of the time they are out deep on the bottom. If you have fished the sabine run you know that the river is deep and has a strong current at times, you also know how big the fish can be. I plan on fishing clousers, WIth spinning gear we usually use 1/4 oz jigs to get down. do I need to respool with sinking line, sinking tip? or can I just add split shot to my floating line? Any tips for my setup?

For starters, I've wanted to fish the Sabine run for years, so take me with you! I've added a sinking tip for picking them out of deep holes and have also used split shot above the fly. Good luck!

If I had a bigger boat you'd be welcome to come. My little flat bottom is about maxxed out with my gear, a chessie, and myself but you definitely should make a trip out there. Feel Free to p.m. me about the run if you have questions, not that I am a pro by any means but I try to go at least once every year.

If you're in the Dallas area, next Monday's Dallas Fly Fishers meeting topic is fishing for white bass. It would be a great opportunity to learn more about fly fishing for them. The presentation starts at 7:00. There will be a fly tying demo at 5:00 with a break so everyone call grab supper at 6:00.

The location is the First Methodist Church of Richardson on 75, next to the old Barlow's store.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Is that church the new standard location for Dallas Fly Fishers? Gosh, I wish it were a brewery instead! Barlows was a hidden gem for fly tiers, but the last I know they have closed it to walk-in traffic - snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

PS - A great brewery in Denton would host anytime!
