Get your six close to 14" then go look for one hawg. More focus on the smaller fish.

“Bass tournament exemptions

Bass tournaments can receive an exemption to the rule that only one fish 16 inches or more could be kept per day. Tournament anglers could keep five bass, regardless of length, and release them after the weigh-in.”

My money is on the tournament organizations setting a 5 fish 12” or 14” min, if that’s the case nothing changes tournament wise.

I love this part... They put something back into the program when they get the exemption!

Bass tournaments will be required to file a report with the Wildlife Department within 30 days after the event, which contains information such as number of fish caught, weights, sizes, etc.

If the report is not filed, the tournament director would not receive an exemption the next time

Gotta get that info. I’d ask what baits, locations caught, color of baits, etc. if I had a choice. Haha.

So do tournament anglers have to have a waiver with them to prevent a citation? Seems like a PITA & more red tape we don’t need.

They would receive a copy of it prior to launch.

The bass tournament director would be responsible for obtaining the exemption, which would be shared with the tournament anglers on their cell phones.

The regulation change probably won't have much effect. Folks are coming around on harvesting spotted bass, but not so much on largemouth. B.A.S.S. did such an amazing job on their catch-release mission that it will take some time to convince the community that ideal management lies somewhere between harvest everything and release everything. For tournaments, it's another hurdle. It's a low hurdle, but it's another hurdle.

Everybody fishing in Ok would want this exception so they could legally carry around fish all day just for a photo opportunity of their stringer they were going to release anyway. Everyone knows a picture of 5 stressed fish is way better than 5 individual “CPR” pictures! JK……sort of. 🤷🏻‍♂️ stir de
