First trip of 2022 we smashed em. Put in after lunch and headed to get bait. Giant gizzards we’re piled up in 39 ft. 1 throw I had 17” trophy Shad and off we went to fish. Started pulling boards in 30 ft around the gizzards stacked up and caught 20 blues from 8-10 lbs. we had huge baits on or we would have caught 50 eaters. Made a move up the lake to find some bigger fish and found em in 26 ft. Pulled boards through em and get 2 20s and Jax got a 40 lbr! Moved over and pulled boards again and found a huge pile of toads on a ledge in 25 ft. Caught another 38 and a 39!! 2022 is off to a great start. Got everything on camera today and it’s gonna make a cool video!!

Absolutely awesome job Chris. All smiles in those photos. Those are the days that keep ya going back for more. Way to go bud. Great job Jax.

I got my big gizzards out of a deep hole in 40 ft Matt. Gizzards we’re stacked up in 30 ft on the flats. Big fish came out of the channel and off a ledge.

Now that's how you start the year with a bang! Just so y'all know Chris called his shot on Sunday. He said it was gonna be the day to get out and it sure was.

Awesome. I never had a chance to get out while Pax was on Christmas break. Plan was to get out there after Christmas and we all came down with Covid again, now we are all basically over it but Pax goes back to school tomorrow. Just my luck.

What was the water temp?

Water Temp was 54° Matt which is the temp the winter pattern kicks in and the Gizzard Shad start grouping up good in mid depths. I’d be willing to bet this morning would make for some excellent trophy fishing in 20-40ft.

I can usually pick which days the fishing is going to be good Tim no doubt. This past year I’ve had to fish whenever I can instead of whenever I should and when your schedule only allows for one day to choose then your at the mercy of Mother Nature and she hasn’t been nice to me for months. When I had my choice between Saturday or Sunday my success improves dramatically. This fall I’ve been stuck fishing the day the front hits or a bluebird day with no wind almost every trip. These are days I would normally pass on but I’d rather be on the water in tough conditions than sitting at home. Yesterday was the first time I fished a favorable day in close to 3 months that I almost forgot what a good bite was like. After grinding so hard all fall and winter and having to work for every big fish it was a much needed trip to pull up to my first spot and look at the graph and say let’s throw down. Love fishing the south wind after a good cold snap.

That’s a good start to trophy season! Hopefully they get predictable the next few months.

You earned that one Chris. Like you said the weather has been against you. Can you imagine what we could have pulled off last week on Twok if we had conditions like that? We could have sunk the war machine from the weight of the fish we hooked!
