One cinderblock is plenty. The trick is the floatation. Don't go using a big jug or stuff like that. A 20oz coke bottle or 2 is plenty and won't float off with water level changes. We like to use 2 cinderblocks if you have some help

Some float like a cork and will need two cinder blocks.

A few years back on Fork in early Hanuary I saw a dock owner had sunk a ton of fresh Christmas trees around his dock. Always heard that fish would not hold on fresh ones. Figured I would make a few casts. Caught an 8lber, 6lber and two 4lbers in 5 casts on it. Inever pass up freshly sunk Christmas trees when I find them.

Fresh are good, old are good. I've always been told when the needles start to turn while in the water they put off a chemical that turns fish away.

They only last about a year typically. Hardwoods last much longer

Agreed, when I used to sink trees, it was always Ceder. That stuff will still be in the lake when we are all gone.

Bois d’ Arc lasts a very long time also. Extremely dense—heavy, but easy to sink.

Christmas trees are so buoyant that tying a plastic bottle on top isn’t necessary.

So I just called a Game Warden and asked if it was legal to sink brush piles. He said I'd have to call the core and ask them. So I did. The core said it's illegal to sink brush piles. I asked what happens if you get caught? They said they can call the sheriff. I said ok what will he do about it? They said he can give you a citation. I said Ok, what kind of citation? They said a federal one, it doesn't matter, just don't do it!! lol ... So what's the deal... I know people sink brush in core lakes all the time.. All those brush piles in the middle of the lake didn't magically appear.. So has anyone had a problem or got in trouble for sinking brush in core lakes?

It is illegal to go over the speed limit in your vehicle. If you are caught, you will be issued a citation. Tons of people go over the speed limit every second of every minute of every day. Some get caught, but the overwhelming majority do not. Jus sayin.
