There's a David Beard Catfish King in Livingston. To me it's garbage but I'm a food snob.

There are still 2 of them in Longview. The one on the south side of town by I-20 is fair. It is menu order only.
The one the North side of town is bigger and it used to be an all you can eat buffet, but looking at their website it looks to be ordered strictly off of the menu now. It was almost as good as the original one up close to Lake O the Pines.

Man I remember my folks taking me to the one in Longview when I was a kid roughly 30 years ago. Seems like it was on the corner of Gilmer and 281....

You sir, have a pretty good memory. It is one block to the north of that intersection.

I stopped and ate there on the way to Shreveport last month. The fish wasn’t very good. I asked the waitress if they had started using Swai catfish (Southeast Asia poop water) instead of Mississippi channel cat. She said yes they had.
No more Catfish Cabin for me.

I think people would be amazed at how many restaurants use that garbage, it is a ton...

Yep. I like to ask when I go in a place before I order.

When my friends tell me to come over for a fish fry, I always ask where they got the fish. When they tell me they got a box of it from our local restaurant, I tell them to cancel the order, and I give them the locally caught fish from my freezer. Life is too short to eat that mushy mess most people think is good catfish these days. Funny thing is, a lot of those friends ask me to make sure it is channel cat, as they don't like other species, and the only fishing they do is a little bass fishing in stock tanks. Little do they know they get mostly Bluecat and Striper and tell me its the best channel cat they ever cooked.

My favorite spot in Fort Worth (Flying Fish) has went to swai.....absolutely positively the nastiest stuff. I asked the manager about it, he said they changed venders and admitted they no longer serve real channel catfish
