Central Texas Fishing Summary – Week of 05 December – 11 December-- 291 Fish

TOTAL CATCH FOR THE WEEK: 291 FISH – 100% caught & released

TRIPS RUN: 3 trips

AVERAGE CATCH PER TRIP: 97 fish/trip

ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY: This week started and ended with cold fronts which brought high winds and the season’s first frost; the use of the Bladed Hazy Eye Slab is increasing as my use of the MAL Heavy lures decreases with falling water temperatures.

MONDAY AM PHOTO CAPTION: Andy Maindelle, with a few of the white bass we took early on in the morning using MAL Heavy Lures horizontally with a “sawtooth” retrieve while fish and birds were the most active they would be all Monday morning, just after the cold front’s wet, leading edge passed over Central Texas.

THURSDAY AM PHOTO CAPTION: Nathan Hillyer and his 8-year-old son, Felix, used a variety of tactics to boat 75 fish on Lake Belton this past Thursday morning. This was Felix’s first time on a boat and to fish for anything larger than sunfish.

THURSDAY PM PHOTO CAPTION: From left: Kelly Hankins and Brad Phillips took 76 fish during their 3-hour trip this past Thursday afternoon. The third hour produced the best fishing, giving up 36 of those 76 fish.

MONDAY AM
Who: Andy Maindelle
What: 140 fish, including 1 largemouth bass, 3 juvenile hybrid striped bass, 5 freshwater drum, and 131 white bass.
Where: Lake Belton
When: AM
How: This was the best trip of the week as we braved the high northerly winds to fish under the influence of the incoming front. We employed a 50-50 mix of MAL Heavy Lures fished with a sawtooth pattern when the fish were active and Bladed Hazy Eye Slabs fish with an easing tactic used vertically when the fish slowed down.

TUESDAY
Conducted on-the-water sonar training to avoid fishing under calm, clear, bright post-frontal conditions.

WEDNESDAY
Conducted on-the-water sonar training to avoid fishing under calm, clear, bright post-frontal conditions.

THURSDAY AM
Who: Nathan and Felix Hillyer
What: 75 fish, including 1 largemouth bass, 6 juvenile hybrid striped bass, 1 freshwater drum, and 67 white bass.
Where: Lake Belton
When: AM
How: We employed a 50-50 mix of MAL Heavy Lures fished with a sawtooth pattern when the fish were active and Bladed Hazy Eye Slabs fish with an easing tactic used vertically when the fish slowed down. Use of the MAL Lure vertically is almost done for the season – only super-aggressive fish under birds are showing a liking for this fast, vertical movement now.

Our last hour on the water was the most productive.
