Don’t be fooled by the room rates on line. There are “resort fees” added on to virtually all rooms. They can be $35-$50 Per Night.

We stayed at the Hilton on the north end of the strip a couple months ago. I thought the rates were cheap but I don't know. It was for 3 nights and rate went up on the last night, Friday. We paid $600 dollars for the three nights including the tax.
The night we checked in their computers were down and had to wait 30 minutes to check in so they gave us a $75 credit to be used in any of their shops. We were able to walk the strip from the hotel.

The lower end hotels in Las Vegas are a lot nicer than any of the hotels where I live. They are all pretty good. Pick the one with the nearby attractions you want to see or do. Mandalay Bay has an aquarium, the Venitian has a boat ride, New York New York has a roller coaster. Check and see if there is any boxing matches or MMA fights while you are there. If you just want to gamble and eat buffets, it's probably better to stay at a smaller place on the outskirts of town.

Hoover Dam tour is very good. The last time I was in Lost Wages, Lake Mead was running over the spillway on the west side of the dam. It was that long ago.

The airfare and hotel packages are insanely affordable, this really surprises me, I know China flu and all that but dang! Nope always cheap this time of year I went for Christmas a couple of time last few years, both times it was stupid cold at night and I find Vegas boring and very expensive now of days, they have turned it into a tourist trap, No longer a place built around gambling and cheap buffets and cheap shows to see.

I laugh at all the guys on here that say the gambling, hotels, meals, shows are really expensive in Vegas. What will really cost you is getting a STD while there. Remember - not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. BTW - posted for a friend.

Don't go. They massacred 58 fine Americans out there in 17 and nothing was done about it.

It seems like I remember about a month or so ago there was a similar thread that I saw some very good info from you guys but I can’t seem to find it now. I don't see one. I would listen to DI, Wawi, Dan90210. They are Vegas seasoned veterans. Probably a few others but I know they are. I grew up in Vegas so I dont know jack up strip casinos or downtown for that matter. If you live there you avoid those places if at all possible. I hung out at Sams Town and Boulder Station on the East side of town when I was poor. When I got some money I was able to move to the nicer west side of town. Then we frequented the Red Rock and Suncoast. Silverton was cool too but a bit of drive from my hood. If you plan to visit a dispensary get the Mojave Rattler or Star Killer...both excellent local strains. Also keep in mind hoeing is NOT legal in Clark County (where Vegas is). You would have to go to Nye county (about an hour drive NW over the Spring Mountains) to be legal getting with hoes. Metro makes a lot of money for the city running stings on dumb [censored] from the midwest trying to get some... I dont suggest that unless you know what you are doing. Hope this helps! Have fun.

And watch your wallet and valuables with hookers around you.... This! My son went out there last week and called to let me know he "lost" his wallet. I told him you didn't lose anything, some POS lifted it off you. Told him to immediately freeze his account(s) but there was already an attempted charge of near $1K. Thankfully the bank had already somehow detected it as fraud. Red Rocks, Mt. Charleston, Hoover Dam tour, helicopter ride through Black Canyon below Hoover Dam are all worth checking out. Helicopter ride is actually pretty spectacular. The rest of it...Vegas proper...absolutely nothing there I ever care to experience again.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading

Just went back and saw who the OP is. Steve dont need weed or hoes to have fun!
Steve you might like the Golden Nugget! Its a beautiful hotel in downtown and has a lot to offer on the property and in the area. Downtown is a better vibe for those not into clubs, weed and hoes.
If gaming is your thing 100% go to a local place. Any Stations casino will get you a much better payback than any place downtown or on the strip. Its fact. Nevada gaming board makes casinos publish their pay back rates annually and no joke local places pay out much much better. Which makes sense. They are playing the long game on ya where as the other places know you are coming to town once every 10 years so they want to get you for all they can on that one visit.

haven't heard anyone mention Planet Hollywood. This is where we stay and it fits our needs. It is cheaper than the others, but still right in the middle of everything. Easy to walk across the street to the Bellagio and Cosmo. Also easy access to the tram at Bellagio which can take you to a few other casinos. Give the person checking you in a $100 and instant upgrade on your room.

My BFF is a top dude at a well known house and he cannot get me even a discount on a room *he used to hook me up with free rooms. Good thing I can stay at his pad ha ha. They are booked so solid since COVID he said he cant even get guys losing $20K a day a room upgrade. Vegas is back and has been busier than ever. Guys that used to get comped trips are salty AF bcs now if they dont have a 100k+ in theoretical play they are lucky to get a free buffet.

That stinks about the $100 room upgrade, though it has been about a year since I have gone. Still stand by Planet Hollywood as it is centrally located and not as expensive as Bellagio and the other, nicer hotels close by. It is no Jockey Club
