Dad and I headed up to Rayburn Friday morning to fish for the weekend. I had forgotten how beautiful that lake is. We launched out of monterrey and headed towards the back of Pophers creek and we each caught a dink on the edge of the creek and continued up the creek with no more luck. After that we headed to the Black Forest to play with the livescope. I started getting excited when I saw a bunch of big blobs suspended in the trees, but after an hour of throwing everything in the tacklebox, I reluctantly left and we went in one of the pockets east of Harvey and picked up a couple more drinks on the brushhog. We hoped around to a couple more spots looking for some better fishing but only caught another dink or 2 and called it a day.
Today we launched at Umphreys and ran back in Mudd creek to start rather than running around in the fog and caught a little guy on a trap and that was it. After the fog lifted we hauled it to 5 fingers and found some hydrilla. Boy how I miss that stuff. I caught decent keeper off the point in the back but couldn't duplicate it. We fished around the point and who I assume was a tournament guy (sponser decals and jersey) started chatting and pointed us where he had caught some and sure enough we got on a few and caught 3 in close order. After that bite died we went up Coleman creek and caught a couple on the creek edge but no size at all. I was itching to see if the blobs were still suspended in the Black Forest and to my surprise they still were!!! After throwing the kitchen sink, I finally caught one...and it was a big Ole WHITE bass. I tried for another hour but that was all I could get to bite. Finally piddled around back to the boat ramp and called it a day. We went into Broaddus to the Dairy Mart and had a good chicken fried steak.

We didn't catch a lot of fish or anything of size buy we had a great weekend. Dad has been fishing the lake for 35+ years and I love hearing his stories of his old trips back in the day where they would run their old 16 footers out and almost get swamped but somehow make it back, or where they caught em good that year 2 decades ago...good times I hope I can share with my kids one day.

One thing I learned...I hate that dang livescope...I never expected to see so many stupid fish swimming around all around my bait but couldn't get em to bite...I will definitely be investing in some training with someone like Clark Rheem who can cut the learning curve that comes with it. We're gonna fish til noon tomorrow so hopefully we can get a few more in the boat before heading back to Conroe.

Definitely not the same lake as it once was. Used to could go anywhere you wanted this time of year and never see a boat. We really feel like the increased pressure has pushed most fish away from the bank even the grass. So much good looking water has zero fish in it.

I agree. There's no grass on our side though, except just a hint of hay grass but you would normally catch some around it. Pressure is still pretty consistent around us.
