This morning at about 830 my dad and I drove about 10 minutes to Live Oak Park in San Antonio. This would be my first time fishing in Texas, and my first time fishing in general in about 10 years. Everything went well, and we caught about 10 bluegill in the fountain pond. I was hoping to catch some trout as they usually fill the fountain with some annually, but I don't think they did since last year. I tried to cast off on the bigger lake for LMB or SMB, and I think I saw some on the surface but there were several turtles and I believe they were more successful than we were at fishing for the bass. However, when it came to the bluegill we found the perfect spot and ended up keeping 6 of them. I ended up catching the majority of them! I had a great time and one of the baby ducks was brave enough to let me hold it if even for a second. Everything went perfect except for a cheap rod that snapped in the first hour, but we had several other rods and we will return that one for another one that is built a little stronger. I can't wait for my next fishing trip so I can gain some fishing experience and update y'all!!

welcome Tony to the TFF. Glad to have you on board. Great post and coolphotos Live Oak lake can be a difficult lake to fish at times. The more you fish it the better you will learn the lake and the patterns of the fish. Just down the road is Converse Lake which has a nice population of nice size Redear. The San Antonio area is loaded with great places to fish. Google is your friend! Also the trout will be stocked at Live Oak on the 14th. Hope to see more of your post. thumb

Side Note: Always a good thing when you can spend time with your dad fishing! cheers

Thanks for the recommendation! I will no doubt head to the Converse Lake next chance I get. Seems like there have been a lot of solid catches there! I appreciate the welcome, I'm very excited to be here and to learn from the more experienced anglers.

Late fall and winter are hard months to catch sunfish. Spring, summer, and fall are the active times for the sunnies! There are also plenty of GREAT ANGLERS who post on the forum. You will learn a lot reading their post. One thing for certain. The more you fish the better you will get! thumb

I have fished that park a lot but have not fished there the last couple of years. Did well every time there. Lake held some nice bass! Nice post and welcome to the TFF! coolio
