Been bass fishing my whole life and from a kayak for the last few years since I sold my boat. Want to try for cats on Lewisville, have a new experience.
I have been sneaking into the catfishing forum from the bass forum for years now and always secretly get jealous when I see you guys holding 20+ lbs fish. I WANNA DO THAT! And if my superior acting bassin buddies don't like it they can kiss my hind end. I won't give up bass fishing but want to expand my species and catch some BIG fish...hopefully and enjoy the fun of catfishing.
I will not be out in the middle of the lake drifting as I do not want to get run over even though boat traffic is less than summer.
I was thinking about paddling out to the tires in front of Sneaky Pete's near the opening to Tower Bay, tying off and dropping a couple baits. Does this sound like a reasonable method? Anchoring is problematic in deeper water. Another option is to tie off to the Lewisville fishing barge. Any other suggestions? Should I be fishing deep water now? I am going to try to catch some shad from the shore in my cast net, but I have chicken marinated in garlic and red dead in the fridge in case I get nothing. See I have learned from you guys already!
Any tips would really be appreciated for a kitty newbie.

Once you catch 1 toad you’ll never want to bass fish again I guarantee it. The catfish forum is full of x bass fisherman just like you. Your best bet is to drift fish. There is an area by tower bay that usually holds some fish year round. Line up with ledge and drag your baits along this contour. Some days they are at the bottom of the contour , other days they might be up shallow. FYI Trophy Bluecatn is a lot more difficult than bass fishing. Bluecatn ain’t easy! ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-99544-119922-724aaea2_660b_4473_a80f_9be05d6d655b.jpeg)

Thank you much. That is where I will go. Got a buddy says he wants to come too. So maybe another convert?
Wind is out of the southwest so maybe we can drift that whole roadbed.
Thanks again.

I’ve caught some Toads where that roadbed falls off into deeper water. That’s the old submerged Highway 77 before they built I35. Southwest wind then start out by the tires and drift up and over that contour and back out into deeper water. Good luck!

Paddle over and drift north side of old damn. Same with Shady Shores if it's accessible. These areas are a bit shallower, but I'd still expect some fish in that mid depth area. Mind you now, I haven't been on the Ville in years, so I could be well outdated! lol

Another cat fishing nOObie here, and also a convert from bass fishing in my kayak. The guys on here are super friendly and willingly to offer up advice and tips. There is nothing like a big pull down from a 20 pound blue cat!!....it's addictive for sure! Be sure to keep your drag set properly. A big cat will drag you and your kayak around like floating toys. If you have a fish finder it will help enormously. Looks for balls of bait and features, and you should have some luck. The guys will tell you dead fish bait (Shad) is best, but uncooked chicken breast is also good but you might get plagued by small fish. Big hooks and big gear (I use 50 pound mono) all good, and make sure you use the round hooks (shark hooks) as they are designed to hook the fish when they bite down. Another tip I have had from the guys here which have worked well is patience is a virtue, but that said don't spend more than 30 minutes in one spot if they aint biting. Good luck and post up your fish.

To be successful you need fresh bait. 90% of us Trophy Catfish Anglers use fresh cut bait. 10% use live bait. 0% use spoons! Lmao!! Couldn’t help myself on that one y’all.
Anywhere in the old lake can be good like TRH said. Finding them is the trick!

He’s looking for Trophy Cats. Prepared baits and chumming are for eaters.

Welcome to the pool... get ready to laugh, cuss and probably even cry some. This blue cat stuff is addictive! It is easy and very hard... luck will be enough to get you a few fish, then you are really hooked!
Then you will start spending a lot more time and money chasing these things!
I love it.
Good luck, ask questions! Some really good people on here that will teach if you will listen. I have learned a lot over the last couple of years.
Tight line!
