 Fall/winter advice

Questions about the fall and winter bite.
I have creek fished during these times and had some success and had 2 trips a few years ago in January that were good but was just with a far more experienced angler and we wore giants out on a flat in 23 FOW on fork BUT haven't had success on my own. Only 3 years of boat ownership larger than my two man with a TM. I do not have LS but do have SI and spot lock. My go to lake only gets about 35-40 feet deep and the deepest timber I'm aware of is 19' with brush in 8-17'. I have some success on the brush but nothing that great since the water cooled below 62. When fishing river channels how are you identifying the crappie or what are you looking for?
Should I tandem? Should I use bigger since I'm almost exclusive to 1/8oz and also only jig fish?
Help me understand what I am looking for on my graph or where I should look for these big crappie?
Yeah I know it was fork I fished with him but hammering fish over 1.5 constant and even 7 over 2#s was awesome. I know the lake I fish regularly big fish in it just nothing like fork and have seen a decline the last year or so but they are there. Just help me find them or how to fish for them. I'm steady early spring to early fall.

Friday I did fairly well on Stillhouse up river. I was pulling fish off of stumps as shallow as 2 or 3 feet and brush piles in about 10. I would pull one fish off of a stump and have to move to another. BPs would give me 2 or 3 and I would have to move. Also noticed the bigger fish were coming off the stumps in shallower water, BPs were holding mostly smaller fish. Was using 1/8oz hand ties. Tried tipping with minnows but it didnt seem to make the bite any better or worse so I stopped wasting my time with that. Prob caught 40 fish in 4 hours and kept 15 solid keepers for the freezer. Water temp was 56-58 degrees.

My experience for winter fishing is use the SI to find the shad concentrations. Crappie will be close by, usually under the shad.
