We fished Amistad this weekend and caught some lmb, smallies and a few sunfish. I caught a 28 1/2 in common carp on 4lb test and an orange and gold JIGLYF jig. It took me 13ish minutes to bring him into the boat. He put up a good fight there was a weed bed he kept going into and then he tried to go out into open water, but I took my time and wore him out. Caught my largest fish ever in 80 fow in the Devils arm fishing on bottom for catfish. Good old common carp we estimated around 25 lbs. What a fight that was……#8 treble hook on cheesebait.

Thank you TXMulti-Species! You need to plan a trip there's lots of huge carp in that lake. They were feeding in the shallows and we could see their backs out of the water.

I've heard others talk about the safety of that lake. Do you reckon it'd be safe enough to camp out there and fish for a week or so?

I would think that a week long session there would really yield some interesting fish. Some place close to a lodge might be good. There is a picnic/camping area just off Hwy 90. A google map search showed a few potential areas. Good luck. Could be an epic trip if you can swing it.
