I've seen this at Texoma when the stripers are chasing little dime sized shad, they would not touch the crankbait lures I usually fish with. Once I switched to a small 16 oz crappie jig with a clip on bobber to allow me to throw it far, it was fish on.

I fish that lake a good bit for stripers....and one thing I never go on the lake without is this;

Stripers there love rainbows and with a hatchery on the lake and occasional releases it definitely pays to have a rainbow pattern with you.

that is the ticket, I have caught lots of fish with those. If the bait fish are larger , you can use a 3-4 in plastic bait on a simple j hook. You can throw those
launchers a mile.
