I’m getting an Xpress H22B rigged and will be looking to do some inshore trips over the next few months. I live up at Lake Fork and recently went to Venice for my first inshore trip but I know there are places on the Texas coast that offer good fishing and several hours closer.
What are some good areas that I should try?
TIA

The further south you go the easier the fishing gets.

Around Orange, Texas is good and not and all day drive to get there. Sabine Lake is good, several areas just east of Orange in Louisiana.

Wade, boat, kayak? Lures, bait, fly?

Anywhere salty. Fish are from Sabine Pass to Boca Chica, just not evenly distributed. Some places are better for wading, some better out of the boat.

Anywhere I go, I’m looking for fish sign and studying the fish attracting structure. It’s an ever changing puzzle, some days you solve it right off the bat, some days you run out of time.

Some folks like to park the boat someplace, have a beer and soak some shrimp, others might like an all day wade fishing tops and tails marathon. If you fished Louisiana, doesn’t seem like that’s a huge place for wade fishing overall. Maybe in the boat fishing is more your thing?

Basically, inshore fishing in Texas can mean a lot of different things to different people

My plans will be to fish out of a bay boat. We fished for trout and redfish with jigs under popping corks one day and live shrimp under corks the second day. That was pretty fun and we loaded the boat but Im sure that was due to the guide taking us to his spots.
I would really like to fish with moving lures for Reds and whatever else my bite, but Im also not opposed to soaking some shrimp if we can get in an area that has a concentration of fish.
I have bass fished out of Orange before so I will probably make my first trip to that area.

Sabine Lake or Lake Calcasieu.
