I will be driving in from Birmingham, Al. to have Turkey Day with my nephew and pick up my boat. I would really like to take him out fishing the weekend after . Any one out there fished Lake Bastrop in the last few days? Or some where close. Would prefer not to have to travel too far. Crappie is my favorite fish so that would be a plus. Thanks in advance for your help.

Our last trip to Bastrop on 10/17, we caught a whopping 6 bass. We do not fish for crappie on Bastrop. As a mater of fact, we have never even caught one by accident. TPWD lists Bastrop as "Fair" for crappie.

Where are you staying? When I think of crappie, I think Fork or Conroe.

Be safe,

Bastrop is a good little lake, but Decker (Walter Long) in S.E. Austin is fishing better. I was out there a couple of weeks ago from first light to about 2. We caught around 17 or 18 and a 5.5 as the biggest. Square bills and swim baits.

I'd go to Fayette County Reservoir.

Google says Decker is only and hour and 45 minutes from me, but I'm scared to go that way with all the traffic up there.

You might consider Buescher state park in Bastrop. The pond has bass, catfish a few bluegills and fewer crappie.

Bastrop is good. It'll be post cold front conditions which don't really matter on the 'trop. Water temps are in the low 70s.

Last four trips this fall have been decent with bass in shallow near reeds. Last two trips were the best with 23-27 fish per trip for two of us up to 3.5lbs.
It is not known for large bass but for numbers. Lots of grass.

Thank you Gentlemen. Looks like Lake Bastrop it is. I wish I had more time so I could try the others. Maybe next spring.
Everyone have a safe holiday.

Bastrop is only about 45 minutes away from Decker. So if it ain't happening out there you can shoot over there pretty quick. Or Fayette is about the same drive as Decker. All three are smaller and easy to navigate around. Good luck. Post some pics!

Go to Fayette. Much better lake. If you DM me I will give you where we killed them a few days ago.
