Had a great afternoon. Caught 19 in 3 hours -- all on a single Thump Chubby from Lane -- if you haven't tried these, you should. Fish were very aggressive. Unlike the summer months where I could only catch 2 or 3 per pile, I actually forced myself to move on after catching 5 at each spot so that I didn't deplete the area. Not really sure if that's something I should be concerned about or not -- would love to hear from more experienced people. I'm assuming crappie roam some and move from spot to spot and eventually will replenish an area if it's a good spot ?

Not an expert but I do the same thing, catch a few and move on.

It seems when you sit there for a couple of hours and hammer a spot, the crappie will take forever to repopulate it.

After seeing Flathead catfish (side imaging) laying on the bottom near a top and the top is empty, I realized he eats a few and the rest of the crappie leave to survive.

You don't really have to worry about depleting an area/spot for evermore. Crappie are schooling fish, and as such, there will generally be several (if not dozens) in one location. What you did was assure yourself that you can go back every other day and catch fish there. A person that sits and catches every crappie out of one area, is a person that will be looking for 'another' place to fish. Cedar Creek is one of my favorite lakes. Learn to dock shoot and then look for docks that have deeper (10+') water. Crappie load up on them.

What time of year is good for dock shooting on Cedar Creek? What lure and line size would you suggest?

I've had other people suggest shooting docks and I will eventually try it. Fellow TFFer Eric has sent me some inside tips on some good docks that I'll eventually try.

For now, however, the brush pile fishing is just too good and seems much simpler. Went out for a short trip yesterday afternoon and fished some different spots and the fish were still on fire.

You will never catch all the crappie out of an area, they're too stubborn for that to happen....LOL

6lb test yellow mono. 1/16oz jig. I have most success mid April to mid June. Fall is harder to nail down as the window is shorter but I start checking after the first cool down. I look at docks that are on deep points or are deep water near a creek channel. The higher the sun and the more shade (big deck) the better.
