Son sent me a message that the City of Lewisville has requested the Barge to close. Sad, lots of memories there from years past. The fishing public will lose a place to fish if true. Sad.

Wow, that’s too bad if that happens.

I work for the Lew and have not heard that but i am just a worker bee. I have fished that place since we moved here in 75'. I have not been back in decades but been thinking about going there for nostalgia sake one night.

Sounds like there is a lot more to this story that "it needs to close"..Especially from the city ??
I suspect there's a conformance problem, just a guess... why should the city care about a fishing barge unless someone
complained,..?? noidea

Sounds like it could stay open...if the owners want it to. Maybe it will be sold and new owners will invest in the remodel.

I wonder how much they'd want for it?

That truly sucks for a lot of folks that use it.

My dad used to take me there every Wednesday morning during the summers. This was late 70’s, early 80’s. I used to like to order a cheeseburger and fries at 5am. Lol.

No, it's been at its current location since it opened in 1958

*edit* ok, I'm partly wrong, as shown below.

I actually fished from the barge prior to its being moved from the build site location to its present location and continued to fish from it when it opened. The daughter of Frank Barrow Sr., one of the three investors in the barge, was our neighbor. She loved to fish as did my family. I also rode the barge when it was towed from the build site to the location and my Mom became the manager of the grill when it opened. During the summer months my brother and I spent almost every day on the barge fishing, goofing off, eating my Mom's hamburgers, and just enjoying ourselves. Far to many stories to put in this post but a great time when you're 11-12 years old.

Also used to be an indoor / outdoor fishing barge in the back of Silverlake cove on Grapevine. Parents would drop 4-5 of us off in the evening and pick us up next day. Lots of learning, good memories, and shenanigans at that place.
