I busted my guide a while back doing this but learned a slick new trick for adding POUNDS to your fish while weighing it. I am pretty observant of everything that goes on in the boat because I want to learn everything I can during the experience. I don't miss much. We were in Mexico with a local guide. He did not speak English very well but all those guides know that a MUY GRANDE PESCADO equals a MUY GRANDE Tip at the end of the day. Imagine you just landed your new PB and its the biggest bass you've ever seen. Everyone is high-fiving and yelling in celebration. The guide grabs the scale and hangs your fish on it. And Viola, just like that you have landed your first double digit bass. You are so pumped because you know that a DD bass is the Holy Grail of bass fishing. One of my pet peeves is when people "embellish" the weight of their fish. Just be honest folks. The problem when guys "embellish" the weight of the fish is that it diminishes how truly special a Legit DD is. A Ten pound bass is a Very big bass and they are rare, much more so than some of the guides would like for you to believe. I have taken literally hundreds of folks fishing over the years and nothing beats the feeling when you have helped someone catch their new PB and it is a Giant. Obviously the fish in this vid is a fiberglass replica. It's hard to see the digits on the scale but the fiberglass fish weighs 4 lbs 15 oz. I pull up very gently and it goes to 8 lbs 5 oz. It is MUCH easier to get away with this trick with a live fish...In the boat....while the adrenaline is flowing. In case you are wondering if we tipped the guide at the end of the day, of course we did. Even though he was trying to make my 7.5# bass magically turn into a 10# bass we just laughed it off and kept fishing.

Good one Ken. I used to take pics of customers fish with one of the old self develop Polaroids.
Catch one in the morning that may have been a 5LB to 6LB slot, by lunch they said it was an 8+
Loved them old Polaroids.

Great tip. A common practice amoung some guides in Mexico. There are several guys who post their pictures with 10's and 11's that are 7's and 8's. I would love to name names, but in the Christmas spirit I will not. Please always weigh your fish yourself.

It seems to be people who want to be recognized a good angler, but do not have any documented success in big fish hunting or tournament success. It really burns some people up inside to the point they are not above lying. LOL.

People can't tell the difference between an 8 and an 11lber? People who have never landed an 8lber could easily mistake it for eleven pounds! Even twelve!

Even guys that have caught a legit DD can mistake an 8 for an 11 if they haven't seen a legit DD in many years. I am sure this is not just limited to Mexican fishing guides.
